Madras university offers distance education MBA program with total thirteen specializations to choose from. Every year the university seek for admission into distance learning MBA program. Madras University is accredited with “A” Grade by NAAC and conferred with the status of ‘University with Potential for Excellence’ by UGC. Currently university is offering total 78 programs including post graduate, under graduate, diploma & certification programs. Admissions are made throughout the year for all these Programmes in two streams namely Academic Year Admissions and Calendar Year Admissions.

Application Form & Prospectus

The application form can be collected in person, by post or can be downloaded from university website. You can get it by paying Rs.100/- by cash at the Institute / Study Centre / Spot Admission Centre. 

If you want to get this by post you have to pay Rs.150/- by Demand Draft drawn in favour of The Director, IDE., University of Madras, payable at Chennai. 

If you've downloaded it from the website, the cost of application form of Rs.100/- should be paid along with Registration Fee.

Admission Procedure

The university offers admission through two ways i.e Spot Admission & Single Window.

Students seeking admission directly in university campus can get admission through Single Window system. The university has opened a Single Window Admission Centre at the IDE building at Chepauk Campus, Chennai.Student has to collect the Application-cum-Prospectus from the Prospectus Sales Counter on payment in cash and has to pay the Pay the registration fee at the “Registration Fee Payment Counter. The Centre is open from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on week days including Saturdays and Sundays.

Spot admission to the first year will be given to those who come to the Institute in person or at the Spot Admission Centres and Study Centres along with the required original documents/certificates.

Eligibility Criteria

General MBA

  • A pass in any branch of study of a Bachelor Degree/Master Degree of the University of Madras or any other University recognized by the UGC/AIU or a qualification accepted by this University as equivalent thereto.
  • A Professional Degree in Engineering/Technology/Medicine/Architecture/Law.
  • Professional qualification in Accountancy, Cost & Works Accountancy, Company Secretaryship.

Executive MBA

A graduate in any discipline of recognized University / deemed university under 10 + 2 + 3 pattern of education with a minimum of 3 years of work experience in managerial / supervisory / executive cadre in business / industry in private or public sector or in government / semi government / quasi government institutions.

Today we'll post about University of Madras Distance Learning Executive MBA course syllabus, admission, fee, eligibility criteria & contact number.

As we know Madras University is one of the oldest university in south India & runs various under graduate & post graduate programs but very few of us know that it also offer a special MBA program for experienced working professional called Executive MBA.
According to wikipedia: Executive MBA (EMBA) programs developed to meet the educational needs of managers and executives.
As we mentioned earlier Executive MBA from Madras University is a specialized program for working professionals, a 3 years of working experience is mandate to join this program.

Executive MBA Eligibility Criteria

A graduate in any discipline of recognized University / deemed university under 10 + 2 + 3 pattern of education with a minimum of 3 years of work experience in managerial / supervisory / executive cadre in business / industry in private or public sector or in government / semi government / quasi government institutions.

Executive MBA Fee

Candidate has to pay a total fee of Rs.25,000/- for first year in which IDE share is Rs.15,000/- & Study Center share is Rs.10,000/-. In Second year candidate has to pay a total fee of Rs.5,000/- in which IDE share is Rs.3,000/- & Study Center share is Rs.2,000/-.

Fees may be paid by means of challan through any one of the branches of the designated Banks. In places where there is no designated Banks, the students may make the payment by Demand Draft (Nationalised / Scheduled Bank) drawn in favour of “The Director, IDE, University of Madras”, payable at Chennai. Postal Orders, Money Orders, Mail Transfers and cash payments will not be accepted.

Students admitted through Study Centres are advised to submit the Bank payment endorsed Challan by the designated Bank to the Study Centre for onward transmission to the Director and for collecting the learning materials from the Study Centre. Fees once remitted will not be refunded or adjusted in any manner under any circumstances.

Fees Payable to Institute of Education, University of Madras: To be paid in the form of Demand Draft  or Challan in favour of “The Director, Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras” payable at Chennai.

Fees Payable to the Study Centre / Participatory Institutions : To be paid in the form of Demand Draft  in favour of The Co-ordinator, Respective Study Centre / Participatory Institution.

Kerala University to Start Semester System for Distance Education Degree Courses

One of the most popular university of south India, Kerala University is set to introduce Semester System in degree courses running under distance education mode. Earlier the courses were being offered under private stream system. The new changes will be applicable from the next year. The decision was taken during a meeting held few days back headed by Pro Vice-Chancellor N. Veeramanikandan. The system will be introduced & will be compulsory for all the students except for regular students. All the students other than students registered in regular courses, required to register directly with the School of Distance Education on the university campus or the Learner Support Centres.

University of Kerala


The decision was taken based on the facts that regular students were getting good marks because of internal marks and students under distance learning mode were lagging behind. This step will be really helpful to fill this gap. Because of lesser marks students under distance mode were finding it difficult to make it to admission in post graduate courses.

R.S. Sasi Kumar, member of the Syndicate, said that the decision on marks given as internal assessment for distance education will be taken in further meetings. As of now no decision has been taken on how these marks will be given.

Kerala University is planning to start 60 more Learner Support Centres, within the jurisdiction of the university & inviting applications from the qualified candidates. Through this the university will strengthen it's reach within its jurisdiction. It has been noticed that university is already running 130+ learning support centers within the state & adding these 60 learning support centers will make the count close to 200.

Recently the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education (DHTE) has cautioned public against fake universities. Every year thousands of students got victim of fake universities in India. Education bodies like DHTE time to time issues a public notice about such universities to cautioned public against fake universities.

After receiving lots of complaints from individuals and institutions about universities running distance education courses through study centers, DHTE issued this statement.

Director T.Karikalan adviced public to go through UGC & AICTE website to verify the recognition of courses and educational institutions.

It has been seen that most of these universities are indulge in offering technical courses. Any University, Deemed university or Distance Education Institution are required to obtain prior recognition from UGC & AICTE before offering any technical course. People can find list of approved universities and institutions offering technical education on UGC & AICTE website.

In a statement, Director T.Karikalan said that engineering, technology courses, architecture, civil, pharmacy, hotel management and catering offered though distance education mode are not recognized.

For direct admissions students can visit a nearest study center and can obtain an application form. Students are required to fill the application form and attach the required documents as mentioned by the university.

Apart from this students are also required to submit two demand drafts, One in favour of the director PRIDE Payable at Salem towards the tuition fees and admission fees (share of the university). Another Demand Draft in favour of the Co-ordinator of the Study Centre concerned payable at their place towards study centre fee (for details refer the fee structure).

Kindly note fee can only be paid in the form of demand draft. Never submit cash in any circumstances.

The total fee of the program is INR 16750. The first year fee is INR 8715 & second year fee is INR 8000.

UGC Banned Engineering & Technology Courses Through Distance Education

Recently University Grants Commission (UGC) banned all institutions and universities offering engineering & technology courses such as B.Tech, BE etc. The ban is applicable on all diploma and post graduate courses in engineering and technology through distance learning mode. Although MBA & MCA courses are not effected with this and universities can continue offering these courses without any problem. The ban will remain active until any further notice from UGC.

In the notification published by UGC, it is clearly mentioned that an action will be taken against any institution or university violate the ban. Institutions and Universities are asked to stop offering any engineering or technology courses from the year 2009-10. In 2010 and 2011, AICTE also notified its policy not to recognise the qualification acquired through distance education mode at diploma, bachelors and masters level in the field of engineering and technology.
No university/institution deemed to be university/institution should offer diploma, bachelors and masters level programme in engineering and technology other than MBA and MCA till the finalisation of the UGC (open and distance learning) regulations, 2014 or notification of relevant regulations by an independent regulatory authority established by the central government, whichever is earlier.  UGC in Public Notice
We were expecting this since UGC take over the DEC. The issue has been raised many a times and actions has been taken. As we know UGC is working on new guidelines for distance education and this step could be a part of that. May be in future UGC come with some fresh guideline for such courses and then it become possible for institutions and universities to run such courses.

In the notification UGC didn't mentioned any name of university or institution offering such courses and we also don't know if UGC has sent a formal notification by email to universities and institutions which offering such courses.

As of now UGC don't have a comprehensive list of such institutions. There are many private universities, deemed to be universities and state universities offering such courses but UGC did not have the authority to stop them as many of them are not under the grant list of the higher education regulator

Now we've to see how UGC can handle the situation specially with universities and institutions which doesn't come under UGC regulation.

There is no ENTRANCE EXAM to join the program. However student must fulfill the following criteria.
  • Graduates from any recognized University. 
  • Diploma holders from any recognized polytechnic with 3 years of work experience post diploma.
  • Final year Degree students.

The prospectus can be purchased from the Institute at a cost of Rs. 500/- or Rs. 550/- by post through Demand Draft drawn in favor of Welingkar Institute of Management,payable at Mumbai.  

Application form is also available online. Students have to fill the application form online, print the completed application form and submit it at the Institute along with relevant documents and course fees.

  • Download the prospectus from http://www.smude.edu.in website.
  • Visit your nearest SMU study center.
  • Fill out the application form & submit it with attested supporting documents & course fee by way of a Demand Draft in favour of “Sikkim Manipal University, DE” payable at Manipal / Udupi..
  • Center will verify the documents & will send them to the university.
  • University will verify the application form & will post the status on SMU DE website. University will also allocate a registration number & photo ID.
